Job Description

As part of the BMZ develoPPP programme, GIZ is implementing a development partnership with the private sector (EPW) with the Dutch company Nedamco Capital. Within the framework of the EPW, cloud experts are to be trained primarily in Ethiopia and, to a lesser extent, in Rwanda. Therefore, the Nedamco Africa Cloud Initiative (NACi) has been founded. NACi is a project that will harness the untapped potential of Ethiopia’s and Rwanda’s highly skilled workforce to meet the growing global demand for cloud engineering services.
This DeveloPPP project aims at developing a sustainable training and employment program for cloud experts in Ethiopian and Rwanda.
Within the project duration, 5,000 young people will have participated in the Cloud Engineer training program (40% women). In addition, 300 youth will have gained a Cloud Trainer qualification. Based on this project, Nedamco plans to offer qualifications as Trainers, Cloud Infrastructure Engineers, Development Operator engineers, Low Code No Code Cloud Software Professionals, Cloud Data Engineer/Scientist or Cloud Architects. These cloud experts will receive worldwide recognized certificates from either Google, Amazon or Microsoft.
Responsibilities and Duties
A. Responsibilities
- Coordinate and implement project activities in Ethiopia, such as identifying training partners in Ethiopia, recruiting trainees, supporting onboarding development of different partners, and setting up internet infrastructure in training locations
- Support project lead in documenting project progress reports, monitoring & evaluation,
- Conduct specific analysis, and assessments that will benefit the results of the project to achieve the KPIs
- Prepare and manage related consultancies
- Organize and attend events and networking with relevant stakeholders (e.g. join the CoP digitalization in sharing and obtaining information to the advantage of GIZ and the project)
- Support overarching internal coordination between the project’ thematic areas, and regional measures, and liaison with develoPPP.de programme as well as external stakeholders
- Create and regularly update the annual plan and ongoing project workplan to assist with the management, coordination, and delivery of the project (e.g. SCRUM or Agile working methods due to the fast changing sector the project partner is moving in)
- Assist with preparation for Steering Committee meetings and help ensure overall stakeholder management.
Skills Competencies & Educational background
University degree in economics, IT sciences or in another subject area relevant for the position.
Professional experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in the field of sustainable economic development and/or vocational training, ideally in IT and digitalization within international and development cooperation as well as in advising and cooperating with private partner institutions
Proven experience in supporting Project Management with the planning, documentation of results, progress report, etc.
Proven track record of the coordination/facilitation of cooperation with the private sector and good knowledge of formats to cooperate with the private sector.
Knowledge of managing cooperation and implementation agreements with the private sector, ideally within the develoPPP.de programme.
Excellent writing, verbal and presentation skills and the ability to clearly communicate complex issues to both technical and nontechnical audiences in English.
Other knowledge, additional competencies:
Good knowledge of GIZ project management processes (e.g., M&E and finance) including experience in working with bilateral and global GIZ programmes as well as experience in the conceptualization of GIZ project concepts and proposals
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, internet research, social media)
- Business fluent in English
- Being a teamplayer is crucial for the success of this project, as part of the team is based in Germany
- Knowledge on digital certification, blockchain, AI, digital twins is a plus
